The Meaning of Liff – My Contribution

green go sign

Douglas Adams created a book called the Meaning of Liff. It’s a compilation of English Placenames used to describe things that currently have no actual word attached to them. It’s a funny book, and it’s also a game I like to play on long road trips through the Australian Outback, to keep us amused, chortling, laughing, sometimes guffawing, and occasionally snickering.

In Search of the Perfect Meat Pie on Chocolate Day

aussie meat pie and sauce

Today it is chocolate Friday, but, on this carnivorous day I declare I want to eat an extraordinary meat pie.

This, I decided, should be a pie to be savoured. It must definitely be award winning, preferably with 5 stars from a local festival of pie eating.

I really don’t want to throw just any old pastry entombed cow bits down my neck. These must be quality cow bits, prime juicy cow bits, in the most golden of perfect pastry crustiness…at least that’s what I hoped for…

Want more from your meat pie? Read on hungry nose…

Chocolate Fridays

One of the things I really really like about working from home on the internet is being able to go off and do something pretty much whenever I please.

I have known the land of cubicles though, including a long stint in an IT department. It seemed like it was fun at the time, but really, I was just making the best of a en-cubicled siutation, though I did eventually manage to score a corner cubicle with a 180 degree view of the city (more by luck than corporate management potential though).

Yes, my little team and I were happy-ish little vegimites, grabbing whatever morsels of fun were to be had, building a little world of our own within a big grown up corporate-ish world. The trouble is, it sucks you in, lures you into thinking that you are comfortable, safe, cosseted and well looked after. Therein lurks danger for any freedom loving creative spirit.

Gone Fishing

dumb big orange fish

Its a stressful world. Busy busy busy. Even when I’m working from Home there is still a ton of stress inducing things that need to be unwound from. Sometimes you’ve just gotta take time out.

I went fishing. It’s an old cliche I know. An oldie but a goodie, a time honoured recipe for relaxation, or so they say.

I’m actually not very good at fishing…

In fact if I actually caught a fish it would probably be a minor inconvenience that would get in the way of the Zen of fishing. If a fish were to be wriggling on the end of my hook then that would be more stress.

Then there’s the whole unhooking and killing of the poor thing. Not relaxing. Not to mention the ‘getting snagged’ in the rocks thing.
Will I ever get unsnagged and learn to relax? Find out…

Christmas In July

Cute party boy with a gift

Its cold here today. Last night the temperature went down to 8 degrees Celsius. We had to put the air conditioning on to heat the house up. The temperature will probably only rise to 21 degrees Celsius during the day.

You see I live in Queensland Australia and winter here is, well, not very cold. I annoy my shivering Australian friends by telling them “Hey, you think this is cold? Back in England people would be sunbathing in this. People would be queuing for hours on the motorway to get to a beach to get a sun tan if the weather was like this!”

Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas…read more…
